Once upon a time…
When the origins of a marble & granite business begin in the Old World countries of Italy and Portugal, you just know it’s going to be a good story and a great success.
How it All Began:
From Flooring to Granite & Marble

Eric Bartolacci came to Canada from Italy as a young boy. His family was in the tile business and naturally, he began learning the trade as a young teenager.

Maria Bartolacci also emigrated from Portugal to Canada with her family as a young girl.

In the 1980s, shortly after Eric and Maria married, they established a tile wholesale, flooring and installation business. Eric took care of all the installations while Maria took care of the books.

This also allowed Maria to look after their two children, Rosita and Gabriel.

So successful was the business, they began importing and distributing tile: a new business (their “third child”) was born in 1988 and was appropriately named “Select Ceramic Tile Centre”.

Over the years in the stone business, they acquired deep knowledge of the materials, honed their skills, and built a strong reputation for quality, craftsmanship and reliability.

Then in 2003, they launched Bella Marble & Granite. Since opening its doors, Bella has become an industry leader in the custom fabrication of granite, marble and quartz.

Fast Forward to Now

At Bella, we’re family and we’re a team.

As President and Co-Owner, Eric Bartolacci is there to meet, greet and advise customers in person at our showroom. Pssst… he loves the materials and the people!

Maria Bartolacci, CEO and Co-Owner, is our head purchaser of granite slabs and is the company’s Financial Officer as well. Multi-talented, multi-faceted, as ever.

Rosita Bartolacci, Eric and Maria’s daughter, is the Operations Manager. She’s got the stone and tile business coursing through her veins. Throughout high school, Rosita worked in the family business, and early on, displayed a flare for helping customers in the showroom. She continued working here while earning her degree in Psychology & Biology. After 15 years, Rosita now oversees the operations of both family companies.

Darren Hann is the Architectural Sales Representative. He joined Select in 1999, bringing over 10 years of experience in sales and 5 years of experience in design to our company. In the beginning, Darren serviced retail stores across the Atlantic provinces. Now he is the chief liaison with architects and designers. He travels around the world, meeting with top manufacturers and sourcing specialty products for commercial projects. His knowledge, experience and tenacity are what enable him to obtain the perfect materials for each job.

Gabriel Bartolacci – better known as Gabe – is Eric and Maria’s son. A key member of the family business, Gabe is the Laser Template Technician whose expertise is what accounts for our “perfect fit” countertops and installations. Gabe never met an angle he didn’t like!

Mike Martin – an honorary family member; has been with us since the beginning. His knowledge and expertise in the industry (as well as his warm and kind disposition) are unparalleled. Mike has donned many titles because he’s just that good. He has been overseeing our fabrication facility for almost two decades and he makes sure every project (whether it’s a tiny powder room counter, or a 10-storey building), goes smoothly. Mike is often on the floor helping customers choose their countertops because his passion resonates with them. While Mike loves the highly precise and technical side of project, he also loves working with customers on the floor. If you’ve been in our showroom, no doubt you’ve seen him in action!

Our highly energized team consists of knowledgeable sales staff, skilled technicians and talented craftsmen. Every single member of our team – whether in sales, fabrication, or installation – has over 10 years in the stone business. And our Head Fabricator, Mike Martin, has dedicated over 20 years of his career to our business.

When you enter the showroom and meet any one of the staff members, their enthusiasm and passion for the business shine through.

After so many years working with stone, our staff have seen nearly everything. And what does this mean in practice? That Bella staff have encountered so many different situations and varied circumstances that they’ve accumulated all the experience necessary to address just about every challenge imaginable.
